The African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA) is a coalition of 42 African Heads of State and Government that is committed to ending malaria deaths in member countries.In September 2011, ALMA launched the Scorecard for Accountability and Action, which tracks quarterly progress and challenges in the effort to end malaria deaths and improve maternal and child health.

Nigeria: N156 million spent on malaria eradication in three years

The Niger State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Sule has said the state government in the past three years, spent N156. 5 million on the roll back malaria program.The commissioner, who spoke at an event to mark World Malaria Day in Minna, said the state loses N5.2 billion annually to the scourge.

Scientists said the approach has been successful in Peru and they are now testing its viability in East Africa.The plan works by enticing mosquitoes to pick up dour-baited chemicals as they rest and delivering the poison to their own breeding sites.
